Stretch: Who is Miley Cyrus?
My kids are 4 and 3 and quite honestly I don’t think they have any idea who Miley Cyrus is. I didn’t know why she was until just a little while ago when I asked who was on everything at Wal Mart. I could barely find a kids backpack or shirt without “Hannah Montana” on it. That’s when I started asking questions and I found out she is on a show on cable. My husband recently pointed out to me that the song on the radio all the time is her because it says, “she’s just being Miley.” Even though we don’t know a lot about her, we are surrounded by her and listening to her enough to feel like we are family…–at least in laws. My kids have no idea who she is, I will be honest. There was so much buzz about Miley Cyrus at the Stadium of Fire that I didn’t even hear that The Blue Man Group was going to be there until it was too late…from what I have seen of them, they are awesome and really perfectly suited for young kids…and my husband and I. I went to Stadium of Fire once when I was little and I don’t remember what seats we had but I remember chunks of smoking remains of fireworks falling all around us in the bleachers. That is a priceless experience.
Enjoyment would be ours if I could go with my family to Stadium of Fire this year. I find that live performances are awesome! My kids would love the show and I know my husband and I would too.
I have no promise of not yelling at my kids for the rest of my life. I have no promise of this event transforming my life. My intention is just to have a good time with the family. My husband and I have decided we can wait until our kids are old to do everything, or we can start building memories, faded as they may be when our kids are older, now and try to create a tradition of doing things and having a good time with each other. They will remember how they felt. We have a quote on our fridge that says, “Opportunity is missed by most people because it comes dressed in overalls and looks like work.” We love life and love embracing opportunities and this sounded like a good opportunity to try for. I hope this essay is not in too late, I remember learning that “the early bird gets the worm but the second mouse always gets the cheese.” So, hopefully we are not too late.
